Monitor Township, MI (August 1, 2023) - An officer from the Bay City Police Department was hurt in a motorcycle accident that took place early Monday, July 31.
According to Bay County Sheriff's Office spokesman Troy R. Cunningham, at about 4:30 a.m., the driver of a semi-truck saw an abandoned 2004 Yamaha motorcycle near the intersection of westbound U.S. 10 and the northbound ramp to Interstate 75 in Monitor Township.
The driver pulled over to investigate and discovered an injured 32-year-old man. The biker, later revealed to be a Bay City police officer, had been lying there for at least an hour after the incident, per a statement from Cunningham.
The officer was transported from the scene to a hospital in Saginaw and is currently recovering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Bay County authorities are still trying to determine what led up to the officer's collision and did not say if any other drivers were involved. The investigation remains active at this time, and local officers asked any witnesses with additional details to come forward.
We are thinking of the injured victim and his loved ones. We hope for his fast and full recovery.
