Kalamazoo County, MI (July 31, 2023) - A collision on U.S. 131 took place on Monday afternoon, July 31, and forced the highway's closure in both directions between Lyons Street and Eliza Street.
Officials with the Michigan Department of Transportation and officers with the Schoolcraft Police Department reported the incident around 2:30 p.m. Local paramedics, fire rescue teams, and SPD officers were dispatched to Highway 131, just 9 miles south of the I-94 transition ramp.
Preliminary details provided by authorities indicate that a semi-truck struck a pedestrian, who was critically hurt and rushed to a local hospital in serious condition.
The roadway was shut down for several hours as police investigated, but no additional information was released by the SPD in the interim.
