Livonia, MI (July 24, 2023) - On Sunday, July 24, in the Livonia area, a nurse was killed when a car struck her as she was pushing a patient in a wheelchair across the street.
At around 9:45 a.m., police said they received a complaint regarding an uncooperative patient who walked out of a nursing facility and was lying in the eastbound lanes of Five Mile Road.
The woman was transferred to a wheelchair by several nurses, who then wheeled her back inside. A nurse, aged 42, was hit by an 80-year-old driver who swerved to avoid the wheelchair.
The nurse was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead a short time later. The driver also hit two more vehicles, causing minor damage to both of them. An investigation is ongoing, though authorities say that alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim's family.
