Grand Rapids, MI (July 17, 2023) - There was a reported injury after a drag race in the Grand Rapids area on Sunday morning, July 16.
The incident occurred just past midnight when the drivers of a red Ford Mustang and a gray Infiniti were using either side of Front Avenue for a race. The two vehicles did not stop at the intersection of Front Avenue and 6th Street, where the Mustang hit a third vehicle that had the right of way.
The two vehicles spun out and crashed into a parked car with a woman inside. The woman was hurt in the collision.
The driver of the Infiniti reportedly fled the scene.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is in progress.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and her family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
Speeding drivers kill tens of thousands of people every year across the nation. Car accidents on the highway happen at faster rates of speed, and the force of a high-speed impact increases the severity of any resulting car accident. Speed can also greatly raise the risk that a car accident will result in catastrophic injuries, and high-speed collisions are far more likely to result in death or permanent disability for those involved.
