Ithaca, MI (March 10, 2022) - Michigan State Police are currently investigating the circumstances of a bus accident that left several people with injuries on Wednesday, March 2 in Ithaca.
According to reports, the bus was carrying almost 30 people, including the Ithaca High School skiing team when it left the freeway and rolled over. Sources say the incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on US 127, south of Shepherd.
Several students and some adults sustained injuries. The victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment, however, all injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.
The cause of the wreck remains under police investigation at this time. Police currently know that the bus went off the left side of the road on the median side and then re-entered the roadway. It then left the road again to the right where it rolled over at least once.
Injuries ranged from broken bones to concussions, with a total of 18 people being taken to the hospital. The driver was airlifted from the scene.
We hope for the full recovery of the injured victims. Nothing further has been reported at this time.
As of 2016, there are more than 3 million vehicles registered in the state of Michigan. With so many drivers on the roadway, auto accidents happen daily. Many wrecks are only “fender-benders,” that don’t result in injuries or even property damage. Other collisions, however, result in severe or even catastrophic injuries for victims. The worst car crashes are often fatal, accounting for approximately 18% of all accidental deaths in the Wolverine State.
When drivers get behind the wheel intoxicated, distracted, or fatigued, or they choose to drive aggressively or thoughtlessly, they can be held accountable for their actions if they end up causing an accident. Other drivers and vehicle occupants who end up with injuries deserve compensation for their medical costs, lost wages, other out-of-pocket costs, as well as pain and suffering and other non-economic damages.
