Lenox, MI (November 27, 2021) - The body of a man was found in a car after it exploded in the parking lot of a Meijer store in Macomb County on Friday, November 26th.

At about 2:15 p.m., police were dispatched to the Meijer in Lenox Township in the 36800th block of 26 Mile Road for reports of a Subaru Impreza on fire.

Once the fire was put out, officers examined what was left of the car and the body of an unidentified male was discovered in the passenger seat.

Detectives said surveillance video showed the vehicle entering the parking lot at 1:45 p.m. Approximately 30 minutes later, it exploded and went up in flames.

Investigators said that no one ever got out of or came near the car. Foul play has been ruled out.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.

Products are intended to be created with safety and utility in mind. If there is a possible or perceived danger affiliated with the product, a redesign that does not compromise its function is necessary. If the product is unable to be redesigned, then safeguards must be established. If the danger cannot be negated with the addition of safety measures or a redesign, then the manufacturer has a duty of care to furnish adequate warnings that alert the user to the possible risks.

When a product could potentially harm a consumer, it is essential that manufacturers notify the public. If businesses are negligent in warning their customers, and deliberately sell products that could seriously injure or kill those who use them, they can and should be held liable.
