Vienna, MI - Deputy Injured When Cruiser is Rear-Ended on N. Saginaw Rd

Vienna, MI (November 25, 2021) - On Monday, November 22nd, a deputy on patrol in Vienna Township noticed a male bicyclist wearing dark clothing riding northbound on North Saginaw Road, in the area of Dodge Road, at about 11:20 p.m.

The deputy, who was worried the cyclist would get hit by a car, approached and offered to follow the man to his destination; an invitation he readily accepted.

As the deputy followed the rider, his cruiser was hit from behind by a Chevy Equinox traveling at an excessive rate of speed.

The deputy, the 32-year-old male driver of the Equinox, and his female passenger were all transported to a nearby hospital.  

The bicyclist was unharmed during the incident. The deputy’s presence undoubtedly kept him from being run over as the cruiser sustained heavy damage.  

The incident remains under investigation with police suspecting the driver was under the influence.

Charges are expected to be filed once the investigation is complete.
