Cottrellville Township, MI (April 11, 2025) – A deadly crash unfolded on April 9 at the intersection of Shea Road and Starville Road in Cottrellville Township, leaving one man dead and another cooperating with investigators. St. Clair County Central Dispatch received the call at approximately 4:00 p.m., reporting a two-vehicle accident involving a rollover and entrapment.
Deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, along with units from the Clay Township Police Department, Ira Township Fire Department, and Tri-Hospital EMS. Investigators determined that the victim, a 52-year-old man from Clay Township, had been driving a 2024 Ford Ranger southbound on Starville Road. Surveillance footage showed his vehicle came to a stop at the intersection before moving forward. It was then struck by a 2019 Ram pickup traveling westbound through the intersection.
The impact caused the Ford Ranger to roll over, leading to fatal injuries for the driver. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The 25-year-old driver of the Ram remained at the crash site and is cooperating with authorities. Investigators do not currently believe that alcohol, drugs, or excessive speed were involved in the incident. The St. Clair County Crash Investigation Team continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
We hope those affected by this crash find strength and support in the days ahead.
