Burlington, MI - Serious Injuries in Crash Involving Semi on 11 Mile Rd

Burlington, MI (April 10, 2025) – A serious crash closed down part of 11 Mile Road in Burlington on Tuesday morning, April 8, after a car collided with a semi truck near Q Avenue.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened when a passenger vehicle traveling north on 11 Mile Road crashed into a semi. The impact caused the car to become lodged under the trailer of the truck, trapping the driver inside. Emergency crews had to extricate the driver from the wreckage before rushing them to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The crash prompted authorities to shut down the roadway at 11 Mile Road and Q Drive while a crash reconstruction team examined the scene. Deputies did not provide details about the cause of the crash or whether weather or speed may have been contributing factors. Traffic in the area was rerouted for several hours as investigators worked to gather evidence and clear the roadway. The driver of the semi-truck was reportedly unharmed. The investigation remains active.

We hope the injured individual in this crash makes a full and speedy recovery.

Truck Accidents in Michigan

Burlington, MI - Serious Injuries in Crash Involving Semi on 11 Mile RdCollisions involving semi trucks are among the most dangerous on Michigan’s roadways. With the size and weight of commercial vehicles, even a relatively low-speed crash can cause severe injuries or fatalities. In 2023 alone, the state reported over 13,000 crashes involving large trucks.

Understanding the dangers and unique legal challenges of truck accidents can help victims know what to expect. Here’s a closer look at why these crashes are so complex:

  • Severe Injuries and Long-Term Impact: Victims of truck crashes often suffer major injuries, including fractures, spinal trauma, and head injuries. Recovery can take months or years and may include surgeries, therapy, and time away from work.
  • Commercial Insurance Policies: Trucking companies often carry large insurance policies, and their adjusters work hard to minimize payouts. Victims may find it difficult to get fair compensation without legal help to push back against corporate tactics.
  • Multiple Liable Parties: Responsibility for a truck crash can extend beyond the driver. Fault may lie with the trucking company, maintenance crew, manufacturer, or even the shipper. A thorough investigation is needed to identify all liable parties.
  • Federal and State Regulations: Truck drivers and companies must follow a wide range of safety rules, from hours-of-service limits to cargo securement standards. Violations of these regulations can directly contribute to a crash and affect liability.
  • Complex Evidence: Truck accidents often involve electronic logging devices, black box data, dashcam footage, and maintenance records. Gathering and preserving this evidence early is critical to building a strong legal case.

Because of the stakes involved, it’s important to contact a Burlington truck accident attorney immediately following a collision. Acting early helps ensure vital evidence is preserved and your legal rights are fully protected as the investigation unfolds.
