Car Accidents in Michigan

Flint Twp., MI – Injury Crash Reported at Walmart on Corunna RdMotor vehicle accidents are an unfortunate reality on Michigan roads, with over 280,000 collisions recorded in a recent year. These crashes often leave people hurt, shaken, and facing mounting expenses. Urban areas, such as those surrounding retail centers and parking lots, are particularly prone to low-speed accidents that can still result in significant injury.

Let’s explore some of the common reasons crashes occur in parking lots and store entrances:

  • Limited Visibility: In busy store lots, visibility can be blocked by parked cars, signage, or landscaping. Drivers may not see pedestrians or other vehicles until it’s too late. These limited sight lines can easily lead to fender benders or more serious injuries if someone is struck.
  • Increased Foot Traffic: Parking areas near major retailers often see heavy pedestrian activity. People walking to and from their cars may not always be watching for vehicles, and drivers distracted by finding a parking spot may not react in time to avoid a collision.
  • Distracted Driving: Shoppers often check their phones for messages, directions, or store apps while still behind the wheel. Even at low speeds, distraction plays a significant role in parking lot accidents, particularly during high-traffic hours.
  • Confusing Layouts or Poor Signage: Not all parking areas are designed with safety in mind. Confusing arrows, unclear right-of-way signs, and narrow lanes can lead to conflict between drivers and unsafe maneuvers.
