Car Accidents in Michigan

Flint Twp., MI – Crash at Dutcher St and Lennon Rd Leaves at Least One InjuredEach year, thousands of individuals are hurt in crashes across Michigan. Statewide data shows that more than 50,000 people are injured annually in traffic-related incidents. Intersections, in particular, are known to be high-risk locations due to frequent turning, merging, and traffic signal confusion.

Let’s take a closer look at why intersections are a common site for serious vehicle accidents:

  • Failure to Yield Right-of-Way: Many crashes at intersections occur when drivers fail to yield as required by traffic signs or signals. This is especially true during left-hand turns or when entering traffic from a side street. Misjudging another driver's speed or trying to beat a light often ends in collisions.
  • Running Red Lights or Stop Signs: Drivers who speed through red lights or roll through stop signs put everyone around them at risk. These types of violations often lead to T-bone crashes, which are more likely to cause significant injury due to limited protection on the sides of vehicles.
  • Improper Turns: Making a turn from the wrong lane, or without signaling, creates confusion for other drivers and can result in accidents. Intersection layouts vary, and without attention to signs or markings, it’s easy to end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  • Distracted or Impaired Driving: A split-second of distraction, or the influence of drugs or alcohol, can lead to tragic outcomes at intersections. Because decisions need to be made quickly—often in heavy traffic—any impairment greatly increases the risk of collision.
