Car Accidents in Michigan

Grandville, MI – Crash with Injuries Reported at Chicago Dr and Wilson AveCar crashes are a leading cause of injury across the state of Michigan. According to the Michigan State Police, more than 70,000 injury crashes occur annually statewide. These incidents take place on highways, neighborhood streets, and busy intersections like those in Grandville—often during peak commuting hours.

Understanding how weather conditions can influence crashes is important. Here are a few ways weather plays a role in motor vehicle accidents:

  • Rain and Wet Roads: Rain can significantly reduce traction between tires and the road, especially during the first 10 to 15 minutes of a drizzle. Slick conditions often lead to rear-end and intersection collisions.
  • Snow and Ice Hazards: Michigan winters are known for heavy snow and ice. Drivers often lose control when braking or turning, even at low speeds. These crashes can be particularly dangerous near intersections and on ramps.
  • Fog and Reduced Visibility: Dense fog can limit a driver’s ability to see brake lights, curves, or stopped vehicles ahead. These conditions often lead to chain-reaction crashes or sudden stops.
  • Wind Gusts: Strong winds can push high-profile vehicles like trucks and vans into adjacent lanes. Wind can also cause debris to blow into roadways, leading to sudden swerves or loss of control.
  • Sun Glare During Morning and Evening: Low sun angles at sunrise and sunset can blind drivers, especially when traveling east or west. Glare reduces visibility and reaction time, increasing crash risks during commute hours.
