Car Accidents in Michigan

Flint, MI – Crash Near Flushing Rd and N Ballenger Hwy Causes InjuriesMichigan consistently ranks among the states with a high number of car accidents each year. According to Michigan State Police records, tens of thousands of injury crashes happen annually. While many accidents result in minor injuries, others have long-lasting effects that alter victims’ lives permanently.

Auto collisions can disrupt many areas of life. Here are a few common reasons why car crashes occur on Michigan’s roadways:

  • Driver Inattention:  Distracted driving remains one of the leading causes of car accidents in Michigan. This includes texting, using a GPS, eating, or even talking with passengers. Even a few seconds of inattention can lead to serious outcomes.
  • Impaired Driving: Operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol significantly increases the risk of a crash. Impaired drivers have slower reaction times and impaired judgment, putting everyone on the road at risk.
  • Speeding: Exceeding posted speed limits or driving too fast for weather and traffic conditions contributes to many injury-related crashes. Higher speeds make it harder to stop in time and increase the severity of injuries when a collision does occur.
  • Failure to Yield: Failing to yield at intersections or while merging is a common cause of urban accidents. Misjudging another driver’s speed or not following traffic signals can quickly lead to a collision.
  • Poor Weather Conditions: Michigan’s unpredictable weather often leads to slick or icy roadways, increasing the chances of losing control. Drivers who fail to slow down or adjust to conditions are more likely to cause accidents.
