Detroit, MI (April 2, 2025) - In the early hours of April 1, a powerful explosion rocked a 12-unit apartment building on Littlefield Street in Detroit, leaving a trail of damage and injuring at least 12 people—six of them children. The incident happened around 4 a.m. and led to widespread emergency alerts throughout the metro Detroit area.
The explosion was so intense that it tore bricks from the structure and forced emergency crews to evacuate the building. First responders used thermal imaging drones to ensure no one was left inside the damaged structure. Officials confirmed that two individuals were in critical condition and several others, including a toddler, suffered significant injuries. All injured victims were taken to area hospitals for care.
The blast site, located on Detroit’s west side, has been deemed structurally unsound and will require demolition. Fire Commissioner Charles Simms credited the quick action of rescue teams for preventing further damage and injuries. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, and officials are working diligently to uncover what sparked the blast.
We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
