Marenisco Twp., MI – One Killed, Two Hurt in Rollover Crash on Michigan 64

Marenisco Twp., MI (March 28, 2025) – A late-night crash in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula claimed the life of a woman and left two others injured after a vehicle rolled over along Michigan 64.

Michigan State Police from the Wakefield Post responded to the scene at around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, in Marenisco Township. Authorities say a 57-year-old man from Marenisco was driving the vehicle when he lost control, causing it to roll over.

A 45-year-old woman from Bessemer, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was ejected during the crash. She died at the scene from her injuries. The driver and another occupant were injured in the crash, though the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed. An investigation is underway to determine the contributing factors that led to the rollover.

Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the woman who lost her life.

We also wish a full and timely recovery to those who were injured.

Rollover Crashes in Michigan

Marenisco Twp., MI – One Killed, Two Hurt in Rollover Crash on Michigan 64Rollover accidents are among the most dangerous types of crashes on Michigan roads, often resulting in serious or fatal injuries. Though they represent a smaller portion of total crashes, rollovers are disproportionately deadly—especially in rural areas like Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where emergency response times may be longer and road conditions more unpredictable.

These crashes are influenced by several key factors:

  • Loss of Vehicle Control: Rollovers often begin when a driver loses control—whether due to speed, sharp turns, poor road conditions, or overcorrection. Once a vehicle leaves its intended path, it can flip when striking uneven ground, soft shoulders, or embankments.
  • Ejection from the Vehicle: Ejection is a leading cause of death in rollover crashes. Passengers not wearing seat belts are at much higher risk of being thrown from the vehicle. Tragically, ejected occupants rarely survive the impact.
  • Rural Road Risks: Roads in remote regions like the Upper Peninsula are often narrow, winding, or poorly lit. Combined with wildlife crossings, icy surfaces, and fatigue from long drives, these conditions make rollovers more likely—especially at night.
  • Vehicle Type: SUVs and trucks, with higher centers of gravity, are more susceptible to rolling over during abrupt maneuvers or when navigating sharp curves. Drivers must take extra care in these types of vehicles, particularly in rural or weather-impacted regions.
  • Injury Severity: Survivors of rollover crashes often face broken bones, spinal injuries, or traumatic brain injuries. Recovery can be long and physically demanding, with many requiring surgeries, rehab, and extended time away from work.
