Car Accidents in Michigan

Warren, MI – Injury Crash Reported at I-696 E and Mound RdMichigan sees a large number of traffic crashes each year, many of which occur on high-speed roadways like Interstate Highway 696. In 2022 alone, the state recorded over 282,000 crashes. Approximately one in four of those resulted in at least one injury, with many victims requiring long-term medical care.

When looking at the factors that often contribute to crashes, one topic worth highlighting is distracted driving:

  • Use of Cell Phones and Devices: Whether texting, browsing, or using GPS, driver attention is often pulled away from the road. Even a few seconds of distraction can result in a serious crash, especially at high speeds.
  • Eating or Drinking While Driving: Grabbing a bite on the go might seem harmless, but taking your hands off the wheel or eyes off the road for even a moment increases risk. It's one of the most common non-electronic distractions.
  • Conversations with Passengers: Talking to others in the car isn’t illegal, but it can be enough to divert mental focus away from driving, particularly in complex traffic situations or at busy intersections.
  • Adjusting Car Controls: From fiddling with the radio to altering climate settings, even quick adjustments can take attention away from potential hazards.
  • Fatigue and Daydreaming: Drowsy drivers or those mentally checked out may not process their surroundings effectively. Reaction times slow, and the chances of missing critical cues—like brake lights or road signs—go up.
