Car Accidents in Michigan

Flint, MI – One Injured in Crash at Corunna Rd and S Ballenger HwyCar crashes continue to affect communities across Michigan, with intersections being common sites for injury-causing incidents. According to Michigan State Police, there are more than 293,000 reported collisions annually, and over 51,000 involve injuries. Flint and other cities with high traffic volumes often see a disproportionate number of intersection-related crashes. Speeding, failing to yield, and distracted driving are among the top contributing factors.

To better understand why legal help is important, here’s a look at what causes many accidents in Michigan:

  • Distracted Driving: Texting, adjusting GPS, or eating behind the wheel can take a driver's focus off the road. Even a few seconds of distraction can lead to serious crashes. Michigan has laws in place to discourage phone use, but enforcement and awareness still lag.
  • Speeding: Driving over the speed limit reduces reaction time and increases the force of impact. High-speed crashes often result in more severe injuries. Residential areas and busy intersections like Corunna Road and South Ballenger Highway can be especially dangerous when speed limits aren't followed.
  • Failing to Yield: Many crashes happen when drivers ignore right-of-way rules. This is especially common at intersections or when merging. Drivers who rush or misjudge other vehicles’ speed can cause serious collisions.
  • Running Red Lights or Stop Signs: Disregarding traffic signals is a top cause of intersection crashes. Drivers may accelerate through yellow lights or fail to stop fully at signs, putting others at risk.
  • Driving Under the Influence: Alcohol and drugs impair a driver's ability to make sound decisions and react quickly. DUI-related crashes are often catastrophic and entirely preventable.
