Howell, MI – Teen Hurt in Two-Car Crash on Grand River Ave

Howell, MI (March 15, 2025) – A 14-year-old girl was critically injured in a crash near downtown Howell on Tuesday afternoon, prompting an emergency response from multiple agencies.

The collision occurred at approximately 3:39 p.m. at the intersection of East Grand River Avenue and National Street. Howell Police were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of an injury accident in which CPR was in progress. According to investigators, a Jeep driven by a 19-year-old Howell resident was traveling eastbound on Grand River Avenue when it failed to stop for a red light at National Street. The Jeep then collided with a Chrysler Pacifica that was heading northbound on National.

Inside the Pacifica were a 42-year-old Howell resident, a 14-year-old girl, and an infant boy. All three occupants were transported to Mott Children’s Hospital for treatment, with the teenager listed in critical condition. The driver and infant were reported to be in stable condition. The driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries and was taken to Trinity Hospital – Howell for care. The crash caused the intersection of Grand River Avenue and National Street to be closed for about two hours as officials worked to investigate and clear the scene. The Howell Police Department received assistance at the scene from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Howell Area Fire Department, and Livingston County EMS.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families during this time.

Car Accidents in Michigan

Howell, MI – Teen Hurt in Two-Car Crash on Grand River AveCar accidents occur frequently across Michigan, leading to thousands of injuries each year. Intersections, like Grand River Avenue and National Street, are often high-risk areas for collisions due to traffic signals, turning vehicles, and driver errors.

Understanding the most common causes of accidents can help prevent serious injuries. Here are some frequent factors that lead to crashes:

  • Running Red Lights – Drivers who fail to stop at traffic signals put others at significant risk. Many severe crashes happen at intersections when one vehicle enters on a red light.
  • Speeding – Exceeding the speed limit reduces a driver’s reaction time, making it harder to stop or maneuver safely. Speeding is a major factor in serious and fatal crashes.
  • Distracted Driving – Looking at a phone, eating, or even adjusting in-car settings can take a driver’s focus off the road, increasing the chances of a crash.
  • Failure to Yield – Many collisions happen when drivers do not yield the right-of-way at intersections or when merging onto roadways.
  • Young or Inexperienced Drivers – Drivers with less experience may struggle to react quickly in traffic, misjudge distances, or fail to follow traffic rules properly.
