Oakland Co., MI – One Killed, One Hurt in Auto Wreck on I-75

Oakland Co., MI (March 13, 2025) - A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Oakland County claimed the life of one individual and left another injured on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred just after 12:00 p.m. on March 11 along the southbound lanes of I-75 near Sashabaw Road and Michigan 15. According to Michigan State Police, traffic was at a standstill as a crew from the Oakland County Road Commission blocked the left two lanes, leaving only the right lane open.

Authorities say a charter bus, driven by a 65-year-old Flint man, was traveling in the right lane when it failed to stop, striking a red pickup truck. The impact caused a chain reaction, pushing the pickup into an SUV, which then collided with a utility truck. The utility truck was then forced into a silver pickup truck. The bus ultimately crashed into the side of a semi-truck parked on the right shoulder.

Tragically, the driver of the red pickup truck, a 67-year-old Goodrich man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV sustained a lower-body injury and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Michigan State Police confirmed that no additional injuries were reported. The freeway remained closed for several hours while officials conducted an investigation and cleared the wreckage.

Our thoughts go out to those affected by this crash, especially the family of the deceased victim. We hope for a full recovery for the injured individual.

Fatal Accidents in Michigan

Oakland Co., MI – One Killed, One Hurt in Auto Wreck on I-75Fatal car accidents occur far too often on Michigan’s highways. In recent years, state data has shown an average of over 1,000 traffic-related fatalities annually. Many of these crashes involve high-speed collisions, distracted driving, or other preventable causes.

Understanding common causes of fatal crashes can help drivers remain cautious. Here are some key factors that often contribute to deadly accidents:

  • Rear-End Collisions: Failing to stop in time can lead to catastrophic injuries, especially at highway speeds. Heavy traffic, road work, and distracted driving increase the risk.
  • Large Vehicle Involvement: Due to their size and weight, crashes involving buses, semi-trucks, and utility vehicles often result in severe damage and higher fatality rates.
  • Chain-Reaction Crashes: Multi-vehicle pileups occur when one impact triggers a series of collisions, making it difficult for drivers to avoid secondary crashes.
  • Failure to Yield or Stop: Ignoring road conditions, traffic signals, or sudden stops can lead to dangerous accidents, particularly in work zones.
  • Driver Fatigue: Drowsy driving reduces reaction times and increases the likelihood of high-impact collisions, especially for commercial drivers on long hauls.
