Detroit, MI (November 10, 2024) - A hit-and-run crash involving a suspected drunk driver claimed the life of a seven-year-old boy and left a five-year-old sibling in critical condition in Detroit, authorities reported.
The Detroit Deputy Police Chief provided details during a press briefing, explaining that the collision occurred Saturday, November 9, at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the area of Seven Mile Road and Mound Road. The incident involved three vehicles after a driver allegedly ran a red light, striking two other cars. One of the impacted vehicles held a family, including the seven-year-old boy, his five-year-old sibling, and three adults. The boy succumbed to his injuries, while the younger child remains in critical condition. The driver responsible for the crash initially fled the scene but turned himself in about two hours later. A breathalyzer test was provided to the man and he was taken into police custody. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
