Macomb Co., MI (October 1, 2024) - The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into a double-fatal crash that took place yesterday morning, September 30, involving a Warren Police patrol vehicle. One of the two officers involved underwent surgery around 12:30 p.m., and both officers remain in critical condition.
According to dispatch audio, the police squad car was responding to a flagged vehicle alert in the area of 10 Mile and Schoenherr, identified through the FLOCK system. The collision occurred on Schoenherr, just north of 8 Mile Road, near Sherman. The police department is now actively investigating the accident.
The intersection was closed following the crash. Police and firefighters requested at least one tow truck to help clear the involved vehicles from the roadway. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to tend to the injured victims, with some transferred to local hospitals for further treatment. The two individuals who were inside the Durango were pronounced dead at the scene. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, which has taken over the case.
We offer our sympathies to the families of the two people killed in this accident. We hope those injured as a result of this motor vehicle accident are able to make a timely recovery.
Physical and emotional injuries from motor vehicle accidents can feel incredibly overwhelming. Unfortunately, tens of thousands of car crashes in Michigan each year result in injuries, many of which are caused by the negligent or reckless actions of other drivers. When people share the road with careless drivers, the results can be devastating, sometimes even deadly.
No matter how cautious you are behind the wheel, you cannot control the actions of others. Drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol, speeding, or behaving recklessly often cause accidents that leave innocent people suffering from serious injuries. In these situations, the effects of the crash can have long-lasting impacts on the lives of victims.
