Macomb Twp., MI (September 26, 2024) – On September 21, 2024, at around 10:21 p.m., Macomb County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of North Avenue and Rochelle Drive. The incident involved a 36-year-old male driver whose vehicle allegedly veered into the northbound lane of North Avenue, resulting in a head-on collision with another car.
According to witnesses, the suspect was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Impala southbound when he began drifting into the opposite lane. Two vehicles heading north were able to avoid the suspect by swerving. Moments later, the suspect crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a 2010 Acura TL.
The suspect, who was alone in his vehicle, sustained critical injuries. The Acura had three occupants: the driver suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the front passenger sustained minor injuries, and the rear passenger tragically died from critical injuries after being transported to the hospital.
Authorities suspect alcohol involvement, as deputies detected the smell of intoxicants on the suspect. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office has charged him with Count 1: operating while intoxicated, causing death, and operating while intoxicated, causing serious injury. The suspect remains hospitalized in serious condition. The crash is being investigated.
We offer our sympathies to the family of the victim killed in this accident.
