A car crash can significantly disrupt your life. Unfortunately, motor vehicle accidents are common in Michigan, often resulting in serious injuries and even fatalities. Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of accidental injuries and deaths in the state each year. After being injured in a crash, victims have the right to pursue a personal injury claim against the responsible party.
In Michigan, the legal system follows a principle known as "comparative negligence" in personal injury claims. This concept means that when you seek compensation for an injury, you must show that the other party was at least partially responsible for causing the accident. However, your own level of fault also plays a role in determining the amount of compensation you may receive.
If it is determined that you were more than 50% responsible for the accident, you cannot recover non-economic damages such as pain and suffering, emotional distress, or loss of enjoyment of life. Nevertheless, even if you share some of the blame for the accident, you can still recover economic damages, which include medical expenses, lost wages, and other financial losses resulting from the crash.
To maximize your recovery, you must be able to prove that the other driver’s negligence played a significant role in causing the accident. Having a Saginaw car accident lawyer on your side is essential for building a strong case with solid evidence. An experienced attorney can help ensure that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of receiving fair compensation for your injuries.
