A car crash can dramatically change your life. Each year, many people in Michigan are injured or even killed in vehicle collisions. These accidents are a major cause of injuries and deaths in the state. If you have been hurt in a car accident, you have the right to file a personal injury claim against the person responsible for the crash.
Michigan uses a legal principle called "comparative negligence" for personal injury claims. This means that when you seek compensation for injuries from a car accident, you need to show that the other driver was at least partly to blame for the accident. The amount of compensation you can get depends on how much fault you have in the accident.
If you are found to be more than 50% responsible for the accident, you cannot claim non-economic damages. These damages include compensation for pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of enjoyment of life. However, you can still seek economic damages if you are less than 50% responsible. Economic damages cover costs like lost wages and medical bills that result from the accident.
To get the most compensation, you must prove that the other driver was negligent. This is why it is crucial to work with a Burton car accident lawyer who can help you gather strong evidence for your case.
