Car Accidents in Michigan

Clare, MI – Injuries Follow Two-Vehicle Wreck on McEwan StMotor vehicle accidents can occur for various reasons, often due to drivers' negligence. Some prevalent factors contributing to vehicle collisions in our state include:

  • Fatigue: Car accidents are frequently linked to fatigue. When drivers are tired, they may either doze off at the wheel or struggle to stay attentive to the road. Fatigued driving can be as dangerous as drunk driving, as it impairs reaction times and decision-making abilities. Long hours on the road without adequate breaks increase the risk of fatigue-related accidents.
  • Speeding: Another significant factor in car accidents is speeding. Drivers exceeding speed limits have reduced response time to road hazards, increasing the chances of losing control of their vehicles. Speeding not only endangers the speeding driver but also puts other road users at risk. It reduces the effectiveness of safety measures like seat belts and airbags and increases the severity of collisions.
  • Distracted driving: A leading cause of car accidents is distracted driving, involving activities like texting while driving or diverting attention away from the road to concentrate on something else. The use of mobile phones, eating, adjusting the radio, or engaging in conversations can significantly divert a driver's focus. Even a momentary lapse in attention can lead to catastrophic consequences, making distracted driving a major public safety concern.
  • Driving under the influence: Car accidents are notably influenced by driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Impaired drivers show delayed reaction times and impaired judgment and are prone to making poor decisions that can lead to accidents. Alcohol and drugs affect the central nervous system, altering perception, coordination, and mental functions. This impairment often leads to reckless driving behaviors such as speeding, running red lights, and failing to keep in the proper lane, all of which drastically raise the risk of collisions.
