Portage, MI – Worker Hurt in Trench Collapse on W Centre Ave

Portage, MI (June 1, 2024) – A workplace accident reported in the Portage area sent one person to an area hospital with injuries. Police, firefighters, and medical personnel were called to the scene at around 8:35 a.m. on Friday, May 31.

Reports show that a trench collapsed at a construction site on West Centre Avenue. One worker was trapped in the 10-foot-deep trench and had to be rescued. Emergency crews spent a significant amount of time at the scene working to remove the injured worker. At approximately 140 p.m., the worker was removed and rushed to an area hospital with severe injuries. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
