Encountering loose horses on the road can lead to unexpected and potentially hazardous situations, resulting in serious accidents that can change lives in an instant. In Michigan, the responsibility for preventing these incidents may fall on the shoulders of the animal's owner, as mandated by the Michigan Animals Running at Large Act. This legislation holds animal owners accountable for ensuring their animals do not stray onto public roads, posing risks to motorists and pedestrians alike.
When an accident is caused by a horse or any other domestic animal found running at large, the owner may be liable for the injuries and damages incurred. This liability stems from the owner's failure to secure and control their animal, thereby contributing to the conditions leading to the accident. Victims of such incidents have the right to seek compensation for their injuries, medical expenses, and any other losses they have suffered as a result of the owner’s negligence.
