There are countless instances in Michigan where people are injured as a result of car accidents. The unfortunate truth is that a car crash can have a devastating impact on your life. It is reported that motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of accidents and death in the state. After being hurt in an automobile accident due to the negligence of another driver, it is possible for you to file a personal injury claim against the negligent party who caused the accident to occur.
When it comes to personal injury claims resulting from accidents, Michigan uses a concept called "comparative negligence". You will need to prove that the other party was at least partially at fault for causing the accident when you have suffered an injury and seek compensation.
The amount of compensation you can recover for your personal injury claim is determined by the degree to which you were at fault. You cannot seek non-economic damages such as pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of enjoyment of life if you were found to be more than 50% responsible for the accident.
Despite being partially responsible, you can still recover economic damages, such as lost wages and medical expenses that follow your crash. The best way to maximize your recovery is to prove that your car accident was caused by the negligence of another driver. By consulting a Michigan car accident lawyer, you will be better positioned to have the strongest evidence possible to support your claim.
