Fatal collisions in Michigan take the lives of more than 1000 people every year. In many cases, these accidents are preventable. We often see innocent people lose their lives as a result of drivers who are speeding, distracted, impaired, or otherwise negligent while behind the wheel. The unfortunate truth is that no matter how safe you are while operating your vehicle, there is no way to eject how other motorists traveling near you are going to act. In many cases, victims end up losing their lives as a result of collisions that they are involved in right here in Michigan. In these cases, the passing of the victim is often considered a wrongful death.
A wrongful death occurs when someone's negligence results in the premature death of a victim. Families of the deceased may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim after the death of a family member. These types of claims are comparable to personal injury claims in many ways. They are intended to help the plaintiff recover damages related to the fatal accident on behalf of the deceased victim.
We know that a wrongful death claim will never bring back a loved one who was taken too soon. However, receiving financial compensation for wrongful death can help a family in providing for their future needs.
