The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that road traffic accidents account for roughly 1.35 million fatalities annually, ranking it as the eighth most common cause of death worldwide. Here in the United States, we see tens of thousands of people lose their lives as a result of automobile collisions. Millions more are left with serious injuries that affect their lives indefinitely.
The unfortunate truth is that the vast majority of accidents take place as a result of human error. Speeding, distractions, and impairment are just three of the most common factors reported in automobile accidents across the United States. After being hurt in an accident, it is common for victims to have to go through extensive medical treatment. We often see victims left with spinal cord fractures, internal organ injuries, and trauma to the head. These and other serious injuries can have a significant impact on the health and well-being of the victim. In fact, a serious injury has the ability to change every facet of a person’s life.
