Wyoming, MI (December 7, 2023) - After being hit by a vehicle while attempting to apprehend a suspect, a lieutenant of the Kent County Sheriff's office was taken to the hospital but has since been discharged.
According to the police, the suspect fled the scene after crashing into a parked car, which struck the lieutenant. The suspect was driving a BMW. On Wednesday, December 6, at around 6:30 p.m., the incident occurred in Wyoming near Eastern Avenue SW and 32nd Street. The defendant refused to cooperate with police orders when they encircled his car. Officers say the 34-year-old male suspect from Grand Rapids started ramming the BMW into parked cars as he tried to get away and struck the victim in the process. The man was eventually taken into custody after fleeing the scene, though police say their investigation is still ongoing.
Our thoughts go out to the injured officer and his family. We hope for his complete recovery.
