Mason Co, MI - Two Killed in Plane Crash at Mason Co Airport

Mason County, MI (November 26, 2023) - On Sunday morning, just after departure, an aircraft crashed and caught fire, killing two persons. No names were immediately given for the two victims of the collision near Ludington's Mason County Airport.

Mason-Oceana 911 Central Dispatch received a call of an aircraft accident just after 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 26th. Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said that a single-engine plane took off from the airport and was flying eastward when it encountered an issue and veered sharply to the north. The jet went down in flames after crashing off Meyers Road, which is north of Johnson Road. The fire was quickly put out as many fire departments arrived on the site. At the site, however, two individuals on the plane were declared deceased. Cole said that the investigation would be transferred to the Federal Aviation Administration from the Michigan State Police, the primary agency conducting the probe.
