Grand Rapids, MI (November 22, 2023) - A semi-truck carrying cattle overturned late Tuesday evening, causing a three-vehicle collision in Grand Rapids, which resulted in the death of several animals and victim injuries, according to deputies.
The collision happened on Tuesday night, November 21, shortly after 10:30 p.m., on a section of U.S. Highway 131 close to 116th Avenue in Martin Township, per the Allegan County Sheriff's Office. A semi-truck with "several heads" of cattle was one of three vehicles involved in the collision, the impact of which caused the truck to topple. Several livestock were killed, said the sheriff's office, but a complete count could not be obtained because of the darkness and the overturned trailer. First responders rescued a handful of people from their cars and provided medical treatment as necessary. The extent of their injuries is not yet known, however. Although authorities have determined that intoxication and high speed were not contributing factors, they are continuing to investigate the crash's cause.
Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their loved ones. We hope for their full recovery.
