Grosse Pointe, MI (November 21, 2023) - An 18-year-old was killed in an accident last week in Grosse Pointe Farms, and the police have now released further details in connection with the incident. On Friday, a 16-year-old was driving a 2021 BMW X3, with one person seated in the front passenger seat, according to police. The teenager was allegedly traveling west on Ridge Road in the direction of Moran at a pace that one eyewitness described as "an extremely high rate of speed," as stated in the press release.
According to the police, he then lost control of the vehicle, went off-road, and collided with a phone pole and a tree on the north side of the roadway. The driver was transported to Detroit's Ascension St. John Hospital by first responders; he is now in stable condition, having gone from critical. The announcement states that other rescuers extricated the 18-year-old from the vehicle and declared him deceased upon arrival. A crash investigator from the Michigan State Police and local rescue workers rushed to the site to piece together what happened. The press statement states that in order to get more information, authorities will be looking into the vehicle's event data recorder.
