Chestonia Township, MI (November 7, 2023) - Michigan State Police say a motorist speeding 105 mph caused a three-car collision that sent five people to the hospital with critical injuries on Monday evening.
The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on U.S. Highway 131 near Corey Road in Chestonia Township. According to the state police, the accident involved two pickup trucks.
Troopers said that one of the pickup trucks was pushed into a northbound SUV after the first incident. Five individuals were seriously hurt, and they were all sent to nearby hospitals. One person was evacuated to Traverse City, Michigan's Munson Medical Center.
Subsequently, a 15-year-old was airlifted to Grand Rapids' Helen DeVos Children's Hospital for further care.
Troopers speculated that a 40-year-old Elmira man driving one of the vehicles may have been impaired. However, the cause of the accident has yet to be determined.
