Detroit, MI (October 11, 2023) - A 34-year-old Warren man was taken into custody by Michigan State Police on Tuesday night after he was suspected of causing a tragic collision on the Lodge Freeway, and authorities released additional details in connection with the incident on Wednesday morning.
At around 11:15 p.m., police were summoned to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on southbound Michigan Highway 10.
A Warren man was apparently speeding before the collision, as shown by the results of an initial inquiry. A passenger in the car, a 21-year-old male from Detroit, was declared deceased at the site.
One other person was also seriously hurt and remains hospitalized.
The driver declined to take a breathalyzer, but police are now obtaining a warrant to draw blood. Officers reported that they are waiting for the blood test findings and the prosecutor's evaluation, but their inquiry continues in the meantime.
Our sincere condolences are with the deceased man's family. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his loved ones in hopes of his full recovery.
