Walker, MI (October 7, 2023) - Michigan State troopers say two passengers were hurt after their vehicle crashed on Interstate 96 and struck a tree near Walker.
Michigan State Police responded to an accident complaint on westbound Interstate 96 at the Fruit Ridge Avenue exit in Walker at about 7:00 p.m. Authorities said a 22-year-old man was behind the wheel when his car veered into the median after an apparent crash, collided with trees, and overturned. One of the passengers, a 19-year-old, was ejected from the car.
Both victims suffered injuries and needed medical attention. It was a "serious injury" accident, according to MSP. The eastbound lanes of I-96 were shut down at Fruit Ridge Avenue as a result.
An investigation remains active, however, and it's unclear what led to the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their loved ones in the meantime.
