Detroit, MI (October 5, 2023) - On Wednesday night, a police officer in Pittsfield Township, just outside of Detroit, was investigating a traffic incident when he was hit by another vehicle, officials said.
A serious collision was reported on Michigan Avenue between Moon and Old State at about 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4. The Pittsfield Township Police Department verified to WWJ that one officer was wounded in the incident.
"Officers were investigating a traffic-related incident when an uninvolved car collided with the patrol cars that were on the side of the road with emergency lights activated," according to the agency. A male officer was hurt when the other vehicle crashed into his police car and forced him into the passenger side.
Authorities said that the officer was brought to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and discharged. However, they had not yet validated the information provided by the Saline Post.
The motorist who hit the police vehicle is in unknown condition. An investigation is still active.
