Lowell, MI (September 26, 2023) - The Kent County Sheriff's Office has provided further information on the fatal accident that closed a Lowell roadway on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred on Fallasburg Park Road between Heim Street and Lincoln Lake Avenue at around 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon. While police conducted their investigation, the area was blocked.
There was a significant collision that was first reported as a car fire, according to the police. Police released additional information on Tuesday, which showed that a Lowell teen, aged 16, was driving north on Fallasburg when she veered across the center yellow lines and into oncoming traffic. Her Chevy truck allegedly collided head-on with a GMC Envoy, killing a 31-year-old man from Saranac.
The man's vehicle was ablaze when emergency crews arrived. After extinguishing the flames, they found his body inside. The teen was transported to the hospital in unknown condition.
An investigation still remains ongoing. It's unclear if citations or charges are pending in the interim.
Our sincere condolences are with the deceased man's family.
