Greenleaf Township, MI (September 5, 2023) - On Tuesday morning in Greenleaf Township, a collision claimed the lives of a 65-year-old woman and a 5-year-old child.
Two vehicles collided at the junction of Michigan Highway 53 and Bay City-Forestville Road, prompting several witness calls to 911, as reported by the Sanilac County Sheriff's Office.
A 2007 Chevrolet Impala was allegedly traveling east on Bay City-Forestville Road when it ran a stop sign at M-53, according to preliminary on-scene investigations, striking a 2020 Chrysler Pacific and forcing the Chrysler to flip and eject its driver.
A 73-year-old Elkton man was taken to McLaren Medical Center by Marlette EMS. A 65-year-old Elkton woman, who was a passenger in the Chrysler, was declared dead at the site of the accident. A 5-year-old girl from Unionville riding in the backseat of the Impala was also pronounced deceased at the scene, per the sheriff's office.
A teenager was driving the Impala and was taken by Cass City MMR to Hills and Dales Hospital for additional care.
The sheriff's office has said that more information was not disclosed at this time due to the continuing nature of the investigation.
