Detroit, MI (September 3, 2023) - A major wrong-way crash occurred on Sunday night, September 3, on I-75 in Detroit, according to local authorities.
Initial reports indicated that a wrong-way motorist hit several other vehicles near Lafayette on Interstate 375 before continuing on to Interstate 75. State troopers from Michigan said the motorist proceeded north in the southbound lanes and struck a Ford passenger vehicle along with a few other drivers in the area. Shortly after 8:00 p.m., MSP troopers responded to the incident and shut down southbound I-75 near Caniff, causing significant delays.
In both incidents on Interstates 75 and 375, a number of vehicles sustained minor damage. The Ford's driver also suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be hospitalized.
An investigation is still ongoing in the interim, and no additional details were given.
