Roseville, MI (August 23, 2023) - State police have announced that they have detained a motorist in connection with last Friday's tragic hit-and-run of a 14-year-old pedestrian in Roseville.
The Michigan State Police updated the public on Tuesday night, saying that they had discovered the suspect car and arrested the driver in the incident that occurred at 4:25 a.m. on Friday, August 18.
The state police were alerted to a pedestrian on the eastbound I-696 entry ramp from Groesbeck, who turned out to be a missing 14-year-old child from Warren. A second call came in as the police were on their way to the location, stating that the child had been hit.
The police attempted CPR on the 14-year-old, but he was declared dead shortly after their arrival. The suspect driver initially fled the scene, but officers have not made any more announcements despite having the motorist in custody. A prosecutor is now reviewing the inquiry.
We extend our sincere condolences to the deceased victim's loved ones.
