Grand Rapids, MI (August 15, 2023) - On Tuesday, a 30-year-old man from Grand Rapids was arrested after he drove into an ambulance and left two paramedics with injuries.
The Kent County Sheriff's Office reports that, before the incident, deputies attempted to stop the driver on a felony warrant at the intersection of Cedar Street NE and Clancy Avenue NE. Police eventually called off their pursuit, but the motorist ended up causing a crash at the corner of Leonard Street NW and Scribner Avenue NW around 12:00 p.m. Deputies report that the man allegedly sideswiped another vehicle and crashed into an ambulance.
He attempted to flee the scene of the collision, but authorities were able to bring the man into police custody. Two paramedics from American Medical Response (AMR) were brought to the hospital, where they received treatment and were later discharged. Another victim was assessed for injuries at the scene and released.
The investigation into the wreck remains ongoing, and officials did not say if any other vehicles were involved in the incident. Eyewitnesses in the area at the time of the crash were asked to contact Kent County deputies.
We are thinking of the injured victims and their loved ones. We hope for their full recovery.
