Detroit, MI (August 15, 2023) - On Tuesday morning, August 15, officers from the Detroit Police Department were sent to the westbound side of I-96 after receiving an accident alert and report of injuries.
There was a multi-vehicle collision in the express lanes of the freeway at about 10:30 a.m., as reported by the DPD and the Michigan DOT. Authorities first stated that two drivers and a few passengers were involved in the incident, which led to the closure of several center and right-hand traffic lanes and the subsequent deployment of first responders.
EMTs also arrived at the site, located just after the exit ramp to Michigan State Route 39. First responders were seen doing injury assessments at the scene of the collision, but police have not released any details on the victims' current conditions.
In the interim, the investigation is being handled by DPD agents.
