Clinton Township, MI (August 15, 2023) - One woman was killed and two other victims, including a toddler, were badly wounded after a head-on collision and subsequent vehicle fire in Clinton Township on Tuesday afternoon.
The wreck happened on Northbound Groesbeck, south of North Avenue, at around 5:20 p.m. Authorities say the drivers of a gray 2019 Chevrolet Suburban and a tan 2020 Lincoln Nautilus collided, causing both vehicles to catch fire.
A 51-year-old mother and her 8-year-old child were traveling in the Suburban, according to authorities. The Clinton Township Fire Department rescued the pair from their car, and the mother later died at McLaren Hospital.
The child was transferred to Children's Hospital in Detroit, where she remains in serious condition. The other driver, a Macomb Township woman in her 50s, was also rescued from her vehicle and sent to McLaren Hospital with critical injuries.
Clinton Township PD is still looking into the incident and requested that any witnesses or anybody with information get in touch with them at their traffic office.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the deceased woman's family. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their loved ones in hopes of their fast recovery.
