Ypsilanti, MI (August 13, 2023) - On Sunday, a plane crashed at Willow Run Airport, the site of the Thunder Over Michigan Air Show.
A Russian MiG 23 fighter plane reportedly crashed at an apartment complex off the I-94 highway and Belleville Road at around 4:00 p.m. Two pilots, according to officials, had to eject. They were pulled from the river alive and with very minor injuries.
Its dark smoke cloud was seen from several miles away. Officials report that there do not appear to be any casualties at this time.
The two were taken to the nearest hospital by emergency personnel. Nobody got hurt at the air show or at the residential complex. The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an inquiry into the plane crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
Private, freight, postal, commercial, seaplanes, and leisure planes are all part of Michigan's thriving aviation sector. This means that on any one day, you may see dozens of aircraft flying over Michigan. Air travel is one of the safest options available since pilots must undergo extensive training and discipline before earning their license, aircraft must adhere to stringent maintenance standards imposed by the FAA, and aeronautics technology continues to advance.
However, no one on an aircraft is infallible, and tragic accidents resulting in the harm or death of innocent people do happen. What's more, accidents involving planes are very rare, but flying a single-engine aircraft is riskier than flying a standard commercial airliner. In fact, the incidence of fatal accidents involving aircraft powered by a single engine is 1.63 for every 100,000 hours spent in the air. In addition, more than half of all documented accidents that take place in general aviation involve aircraft with a single engine. Authorities say that 30 accidents per 100,000. flight hours flown was the average yearly accident rate for small single-engine aircraft in recent years.
Essentially, most aviation crashes involve private, smaller planes. Further, the events leading up to these crashes are often avoidable and can occur due to the following:
Thus, an aviation accident settlement, like any other personal injury claim, is intended to compensate a victim for their financial losses as a result of a crash and their physical and emotional suffering after a plane crash has occurred through no fault of their own.
