Zeeland Township, MI (July 25, 2023) - The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office reports that a Caledonia man was seriously injured in a two-car collision that occurred on Tuesday, July 25, in Zeeland Township.
Police reported the accident on Tuesday at 12:55 p.m. near the intersection of Byron Road and 48th Avenue.
The sheriff's office reports that a 21-year-old man from Caledonia was driving south in a Honda CRV on 48th Avenue when he stopped at the stop sign before proceeding through the intersection with Byron Road. Shortly thereafter, a 51-year-old Zeeland man behind the wheel of a dump truck and traveling in the westbound direction collided with the first driver.
Both cars veered off the road's northern shoulder and into a ditch. According to the sheriff's office, the Honda CRV's driver is in critical condition after being flown to the hospital by an Aeromed helicopter.
The intersection of 48th Avenue and Byron Road remained closed for several hours, and an active investigation is being handled by Michigan State Police.
