Detroit, MI (July 24, 2023) - According to Michigan State Police, a collision on the Southfield Freeway Sunday night left a 6-year-old child from Ecorse in critical condition.
On July 23, at around 5:10 p.m., two drivers were traveling south on the Southfield Freeway, and according to witnesses, both of them simultaneously attempted to merge into the middle lane. In an attempt to avoid colliding with the other car, one lost control, climbed an embankment, and struck a concrete wall.
The child passenger was unconscious but breathing when paramedics arrived. The boy's mother and brother, who were also passengers in the car, both suffered minor injuries in the collision.
The three passengers were all transferred to a nearby hospital. The child was rushed to a hospital in Dearborn with what seemed to be spinal and brain injuries before being sent to Children's Hospital of Detroit.
His current condition is unknown, but officers are continuing to investigate the crash in the meantime.
