Portland Township, MI (July 23, 2023) - On Saturday morning, July 22, authorities say a woman was killed in a two-car collision outside of the Portland Township.
The Ionia County Sheriff's Office reports that the incident occurred at 9:15 a.m. along East Grand River Avenue and Keefer Highway in Portland Township.
A 67-year-old man from Lyons, who was driving a Chrysler Pacifica, was reportedly involved in an accident when he ran a stop sign at East Grand River Avenue while traveling south on Keefer Highway. The Pacifica then allegedly collided with an eastbound Honda HR-V driven by a 71-year-old Portland woman.
It was reported by the Ionia County Sheriff's Office that the HR-V turned on its side and landed on its roof. The deputy stated the HR-V driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Pacifica was not mentioned in the sheriff's report, though it appears he was transported to an area medical center for his injuries. An investigation remains ongoing, and no further details were provided.
Our deepest condolences go out to the deceased woman's family. Our thoughts are with any injured victims and their loved ones in hopes of a full recovery.
