Detroit, MI (July 22, 2023) - On Saturday afternoon, July 22, two to three vehicles collided on northbound Interstate 96, prompting the Detroit Police Department to close the highway and request the dispatch of emergency response teams.
There was a multi-vehicle accident on I-96 at Cedar Street at about 1:15 p.m., according to officials from Ingham County and the Detroit Police Department, which advised drivers to avoid the area while they conducted their investigation.
Local EMTs arrived shortly thereafter to treat people involved in the accident, but the exact number hurt and the extent of their injuries are yet unknown.
Around 2:30 p.m., the freeway was reopened, but police are still looking into what happened. An investigation remains active and is being handled by the DPD going forward.
